Don't Sneeze Yourself into Summer

With the fabulous weather we’ve been experiencing (bring on the Pimms!) there’s no denying that our vicious hay fever allergens have come out to play.

Hay fever is an allergic reaction to pollen – and not the type just resting in your flowerbed, it’s airborne too!

So what are the symptoms of this summer delibitating illness?

  • Blocked or runny nose
  • Itchy, red and watering eyes
  • Sneezing
  • Drowsiness
  • Headache
  • Sore or scratchy throat

Put away your boiler suit and mask – pollen is unavoidable. However it can be tamed by practicing the following:

  • Stay indoors as much as possible and keep windows and doors shut.
  • Avoid cutting grass, large grassy places, and camping.
  • Shower and wash your hair after being outdoors, especially after going to the countryside.
  • Keep car windows closed and consider buying a pollen filter for the air vents in your car. These should be changed at every service.

Want to prevent your hay fever allergies from being so prevalent this summer? Here are a few natural tips for doing so:

Vegetarian friendly solution:

Honey –

Introducing raw, natural honey into your diet a few weeks into the spring can help prevent your hay fever becoming severe during those summer months. By eating natural honey before the pollen season begins can help build up your immunity.

Vegan friendly solution:

Nettle Tea –

Nettle tea acts as a natural anti-histamine and is best consumed through a tea-like formula.  It acts as a natural pollen preventative.

Vegetarian friendly solution:

Line the Nose –

By lining the bottom of your nose with a barrier of ointment or cream this will help prevent the pollen from entering the body through your nostrils.
