People get very confused about using serums. I often get asked when should I apply my serum? Should I only use it a night? Should it go on top or under my moisturiser? I thought it was time I cleared all the confusion by giving some advice on how and why we should be using serums.
A good serum should be packed full of antioxidants to help defend and repair the skin. Providing intensive care to treat problem or fragile areas. Its aim is to penetrate deep into the three layers of the skin to strengthen the cells as well as deliver active ingredients to your skin. A moisturiser only helps with the superficial layers of the skin by retaining moisture on the surface of the skin and preventing it from evaporating, a good face serum will actually help your moisturiser to penetrate deeper and provide effective hydration.
I recommend apply a serum twice a day. It is vital that all serums go onto the skin first after cleansing and toning. The main reason to use a facial serum first is to get added nutrients into deeper layers of your skin. You should apply it on a toner damp skin, this helps to lock in moisture. Wait at least 5 minutes until the serum is fully absorbed before applying your moisturiser. By layering your moisturiser on top, this helps to seal and magnify the benefits of the serum. A great tip is to keep your moisturiser in the fridge. When your moisturiser is applied cold, it pushes blood away from the skin and in the process it creates a vacuum effect to pull the potent serum ingredients deeper within the skin.
The regular use of a facial serum can absolutely help you revitalize your face and make it more younger looking.
